LUCIA DWYER
Filmmaker | Sound Artist | Sound Designer

Lucía Dwyer is an Irish sound designer, recordist, filmmaker, and sound artist working across post-production sound, experimental sonic art and film/theatre. Her practice is grounded in a curiosity for the emotional, psychological, and symbolic roles of sound, both as an artistic medium and as a tool for storytelling.

Lucía holds a Master’s degree in Experimental Sound Practice with First Class Honours from University College Cork, where she was mentored by a diverse group of influential artists and educators including John Godfrey, Karen Power, Jeffrey Weeter, Mick O’Shea and Danny McCarthy. She also holds a First Class Honours degree in Film & Television (majoring in Sound/minor production) from the National Film School, IADT, Dún Laoghaire, where she studied under full academic scholarship.

She previously worked with Virgin Media Television, with experience in both post-audio and live sound. She has worked in both location and post-sound for numerous short films, as well as pursuing her own creative projects, directing, composing, and sound-creating for theatre plays, sound art installations, experimental films, as well as live performances. She is currently completing training in Foley Art.

Lucía’s artistic work is focused on exploring sound as a language, one that explores human connection and embodied physical memory, often within the psychology of varied cultural contexts. Her sound installations and experimental compositions engage with themes of queerness, language, and decolonization, examining how sound shapes identity, place, and perception. She draws on experimental techniques to build politically charged, community-inspired, immersive aural experiences.

Through both her creative and professional journey, Lucía continues to explore her practice as an evolving medium that invites deep listening and community bonds.
