DUEL
Live Performance- Kirkos Fluxus, The Complex, Dublin. November 2025
Lucía Dwyer, Benjamin Burns, Saoirse LeJeune
Duel is a multidisciplinary performance piece exploring sound, movement, and dramaturgy, created by Lucía Dwyer and Benjamin Burns. First presented as a demo concept performance at The Complex Dublin in November 2025 with support from Kirkos Ensemble.
At Duel’s centre is a Ringmaster who engages in a personal dialogue with an audience, gathering their anonymous secrets, setting in motion a sequence of improvised sonic duels between two musicians sharing a single violin. Using bows as their “weapons,” the performers transform each secret into a ruthless sonic argument, an audible negotiation of its moral weight. As roles shift between masked performer and unmasked civilian, Duel blurs the line between truth and artifice, vulnerability and spectacle.
A 30+ minute performance floating between monologue, physical performance, object theatre, and extended musical performance; Duel examines being a subject in/of the world we've made. How do we manage (or not) to communicate with the words and means we've inherited?
This piece uses monologue, improvisation, and shifting identities to pry open the boundaries between audience and performer. Exploring human experience revealed, concealed, and imagined together.
